The Buckeyes first big game of the season turned Ohio Stadium, also known as The Horseshoe, or The Shoe, into the most-scarlet place on earth. Almost everyone in the crowd of 105,826, the third-largest in Ohio State history, was donning the Buckeyes’ shade of red. The Ohio State University football team played their first game on May 3, 1890. Ohio Stadium is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and has been home to Buckeye football since 1922.
